SLES 10 NFS 4 Server gives ENOTDIR error when creating a new file

This document (7008809) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 3

Situation

Attempting to create a new file via NFS v4 may result in an inappropriate failure, and error code "ENOTDIR" (Not a directory).  This problem will not occur on NFS v3 or lower.

Additional keywords:  nfs4 nfsv4

Resolution

The problem is corrected for SLES 10 SP3 in kernel update version 2.6.16.60-0.77.1.  The fix is also present in SLES 10 SP4 (which ships with kernel 2.6.16.60-0.85.1).  The update is needed on the NFS Server side of the interaction, not the NFS Client side.
