SLES11 SP3: HP (any model) Gen9 systems crashing after installing latest updates

Environment
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 (SLES 11 SP3)
Situation
HP Gen9 (any model) Systems crash hard after applying some updates.
System can be booted into Single user (init 1) but as soon some load is applied or network activated, the system crashes without a crashdump being written.
As far as known only Gen9 systems are affected.

Resolution
Upgrade microcode_ctl package to at least version microcode_ctl-1.17-102.80.1.
Cause
Reason is a bug in microcode_ctl-1.17-102.78.1.
Versions before and after that are not affected.
