System crashes when the system is rebooted with SR-IOV enabled QLogic cards

This document (000019630) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP1

Situation

On a system equipped with QL41000 series devices and SRIOV enabled, the system crashes when rebooted.

Resolution

The fix for this issue is released in Linux Kernel 4.12.14-197.37.1 and later

The issue could be worked around by disabling SRIOV before rebooting the system.
SRIOV could be disabled by following command :
echo 0 > /sys/class/net/{PCI NIC device}/device/sriov_numfs

Cause

The system crash is due to a NULL pointer deference in qede driver.
It is fixed by following upstream patch – qede: fix NULL pointer deref in __qede_remove()
