Network fails after wicked update
This document (000021465) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.
Environment
SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro 5.5
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP5
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3
Situation
After updating wicked to the following versions, the network fails to start:
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP5 or SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro 5.5:
0.6.75-150500.3.26.1
0.6.75-150500.3.29.1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4:
0.6.75-150400.3.24.1
0.6.75-150400.3.27.1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3:
0.6.75-150300.4.29.1
0.6.75-150300.4.32.1
The following error message shown can be found:
wickedd-nanny: call to org.opensuse.Network.Protocol.IPv6.changeProtocol() failed: General failure
The boot parameter ipv6.disable=1
is set within kernel command line as well as net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 0
in /etc/sysctl.d/*
Resolution
Following updates will fix this issue:
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP5 or SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro 5.5:
0.6.76-150500.3.33.1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4:
0.6.76-150400.3.30.1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3:
0.6.76-150300.4.35.1
To workaround either downgrade wicked to previous version or set net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
instead to pass the ipv6.disable=1
kernel override parameter conflicting with the config.
Cause
net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 0
setting while ipv6 is disabled via kernel boot parameter ipv6.disable=1
.
